Steven Cyr M.D.:

As a spine surgeon, when patient after patient, after patient kept telling me, “Hey, while you’re in there,” because a lot of my anterior spinal surgeries through the belly, I have to go around the abdomen. A lot of patients would ask me, “Can you take away a little fat? Can you do a little tummy tuck? Can you do a little liposuction?” And it was always kind of in jest but partly they were serious like most jokes are. So I started thinking maybe one day I’ll do the cosmetic surgery training I’ve been thinking about since I was a resident. And so, as that idea kept just hanging in the back of my head, one day I thought, you know what, I’m going to do it.

And so I called all over the country and I found that multiple people recommended the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery president to be a person that I should seek training from. And just like with my spine training, I always tried to go to the best program possible. I wanted to go to the Mayo Clinic for a specific reason because it’s been ranked number one in orthopedics and spine surgery in neurosurgery for years and years, 20-plus years. And so for the same thing, for the same reason, I wanted to seek out the best person to train me in cosmetic surgery. I wanted my cosmetic surgery background to be based on training that would make me adept and skilled. And not just the average surgeon, I wanted to be better than average. I wanted to be supreme and superb at what I did. And so similar to my spine training, I wanted to make sure I went to the best place. So I found the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery president, and he was willing to train me. So it worked out perfectly.
