Q&A: Dr. Cyr, what is your typical day like?
On a typical day, I wake up at 5:30 AM and head to work. Surgery typically starts around 7:30 in the morning after speaking with my patient and their family about their upcoming procedure and answering any final questions about their surgery and postoperative recovery. My surgeries last anywhere from 2 to 14 hours and sometimes even longer depending on the surgery being performed.
After surgery, I commonly have a clinic in which I see between two and eight patients. Sometimes I get out of surgery or clinic at 10 or 11 PM. Typically, half of my week is spent in San Antonio, and the other half is spent in Houston. I do have to travel back-and-forth but have a very reliable driver to make sure that I get there safely and that I can either rest or work while I’m in the car to make the best use of my time traveling.
Currently, I have set aside 1 to 2 days per week for cosmetic surgery and typically the rest of my week is taken up with spine surgeries, usually 3 to 4 days weekly.
