Steven Cyr M.D.:
For me what I do is I just try to moderate my diet. You want to follow a sustainable program. I think the key to being fit throughout your life is doing something you can modify moderate and sustain. If you go on these heavy diets and these really hard programs to follow, it becomes unsustainable. And so that’s when people see these weight fluctuations, which aren’t healthy for you. So if I feel like I’m eating too many carbs, the next day I’ll go low carb. Some days I go moderate, some days I go low. And on the days I have higher fats, I always try to focus more on healthy fats, and I’ll intake fewer carbs that day. So for me, it’s always about protein at about a gram per pound of body weight, and then modifying my carbs daily. So I don’t go “no carbs”. What I do primarily is avoidance of sweets, sugars, and desserts. Those are the things I think that get you. But every once in a while, I will have a piece of cake. I mean, you have to do sustainable things.
