Will VASER Lipo tighten skin? The short answer is a qualified yes. VASER lipo is clinically proven to create more skin retraction than other forms of liposuction. That is not to say it tightens skin beyond its original condition before surgery.

The qualifier: You may not get the desired amount of retraction if you have too much excess or lax skin. It will improve following treatment; your skin will be somewhat more flush with the underlying tissues. But if you have too much skin laxity, no form of liposuction can remedy redundant skin.

Skin Tightening Results After Liposuction Depends on Your Body

The amount of skin tightening that occurs following any liposuction treatment is determined first and foremost by the quality of skin elasticity than by the liposuction technique. Responsible practitioners acknowledge that evidence to suggest a significant skin tightening advantage from one method over another is limited.

The bottom line is if you have extra, loose skin, liposuction (in any form) will not give you the flat and tight look you envision. Liposuction when you have loose skin without specifically addressing skin laxity results in a rippled or sagging effect. If you have tight, firm skin, liposuction will produce good skin retraction results.

The good news is there are solutions to excess or loose skin.

Solutions for excess abdominal skin are:

  • Renuvion J-Plasma scarless skin tightening for extra skin that has sufficient elasticity to flatten after liposuction
  • A mini or reverse tummy tuck in the case of excess skin that has to be removed surgically due to volume or lack of elasticity to achieve optimal skin retraction

Scarless Skin Tightening

The ability to tighten the skin without the necessity for cutting is referred to as scarless skin tightening.

High-definition liposuction aims to deliver transformational body contouring changes. VASER liposuction removes fat more aggressively than conventional liposuction so, skin redundancy has become a legitimate issue for expert High-Definition surgeons. They are removing more fat than they can by other methods, resulting in more skin redundancy.

Skin redundancy is a more significant issue for older patients and women who have had babies and want to reshape their bodies. After 45, the skin loses elasticity (its ability to rebound) when the recoil protein “elastin” levels drop. After pregnancy, particularly multiple births, it is impossible for skin stretched to return to pre-pregnancy appearance.

Traditionally, all skin tightening required surgical removal of excess skin. However, with the introduction of Renuvion® skin tightening, it is now possible to eliminate minor to moderate skin redundancy without the need for surgical incisions. Renuvion® acts like shrink-wrap and stimulates the collagen in your skin to tighten, a process known as subdermal coagulation.

When HD VASER liposuction is combined with Renuvion® technology, previously problem areas may now be contoured beautifully with firm skin.

Strategic Skin Excisions (Skin Removal)

The high-definition liposuction technique, and other lipo methods, may necessitate strategic skin excisions. That means surgically removing skin from the areas of the body where firm skin re-draping cannot occur naturally or with Renuvion. The key to skin excisions is to position the inevitable scars in places hidden by clothing and for the surgeon to apply cosmetic skills to minimize scars.

For example, Dr. Cyr may suggest a mini tummy tuck in the lower abdominal region or a reverse tummy tuck in the upper part of the abdomen.

  • The mini tummy tuck removes skin below the belly button using an incision hidden beneath the undergarment in the pubic region.
  • The reverse tummy tuck removes skin above the belly button through two separate incisions buried behind the breasts in the inframammary crease.

Two distinct excision procedures are necessary for the abdominal area because the belly button acts as an anchor and requires both the upper and lower abdominal skin to be tightened with the correct technique. Your surgeon can reduce significant skin redundancy with these targeted excisions.

Other common areas for surgery to remove excess skin are body lifts. In the cases of extensive weight loss and aging, large amounts of skin may need to be removed in an upper or lower body lift procedure to ensure optimal results.

Sometimes when doing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), the surgeon will suggest a lower body lift so that fat transferred to the buttocks does not result in a sagging effect vs. a nice, rounded look. Like the breast area, the buttock can only support so much weight without sagging.
